Here's my quick synopsis on the AL West pennant race: On Friday May 23rd the Royals defeated the California Angels to take over sole possession of 1st place and never looked back. By the 4th of July they ran their lead up to double digits and everyone else was left to play for 2nd. 1980 saw a resurgence of the Oakland A's, who finished over .500 (83-79) for the first time since 1976, while playing an exciting brand of baseball called "Billy Ball". The rest of the division finished under .500 and way out of the money. As strong as the AL East was, that's how weak the West was (KC notwithstanding).
